Why should I be concerned about the security of my wireless network?

Users of wireless devices outside your home can connect to your wireless network if it is unsecured. Once on your network, unauthorized users could:

  • Access your files and personal information, such as:
    • Credit card numbers.
    • Bank account information.
    • Passwords.
  • Use your network to conduct illegal activities that can be traced to your IP address, such as:
    • Sending out spam.
    • Downloading or distributing inappropriate content and copyrighted materials.
    • Releasing viruses.
  • Jeopardize the quality and speed of your Internet service by using your bandwidth when you need it.
