How can I tell whether the battery for my Home Phone modem needs to be replaced?

You can check your battery for your Home Phone modem, or MTA, by checking the battery indicator while the MTA is plugged in or by checking your Home Phone's functionality while the MTA is unplugged.

Look at your Home Phone modem to identify the manufacturer and model number, and then find instructions for your modem in the following information.

Arris Touchstone™ TM402 and TM402P

To check the battery indicator with the MTA plugged in:

Find the indicator light on the front of the MTA labeled Battery or Battery 1.

  • If the light is solid, the battery is good.
  • If the light flashes, the battery is low.
  • If the light is off, the battery is bad or missing.

To test the battery with the MTA unplugged:

Unplug the MTA. You should be able to obtain a dial tone from a connected phone.

Arris Touchstone™ TM502G

To check the battery indicator with the MTA plugged in:

Find the indicator light labeled Battery on the front of your MTA.

  • If the light is solid, the battery is good or low.
  • If the light is flashing, the modem is running off the battery or the battery is bad.
  • If the light is off, the battery is missing or is completely discharged.

To test the battery with your MTA unplugged:

Unplug the MTA. You should be able to obtain a dial tone from a connected phone.

If all lights are flashing at the same time, the MTA experienced a self-test failure. The only way to fix this problem is to replace the unit. Contact Us.

Arris Touchstone™ TM602G

To check the battery indicator with the MTA plugged in:

Find the indicator light labeled Battery on the front of your MTA.

  • If the light is solid, the battery charge is good or low.
  • If the light is off, the battery is missing or dead.
  • If the light is flashing, the battery is bad.

To test the battery with the MTA unplugged:

Unplug the MTA. If the Battery light is flashing, the battery is working.

If all lights are flashing at the same time, the MTA experienced a self-test failure.

To check the battery indicator with the MTA plugged in:

Find the indicator light labeled Battery on the front of your MTA. If the light is solid, the battery is good.

To check the battery indicator with the MTA unplugged:

Unplug the MTA. If the light is flashing, no AC power is going to the MTA. Power is still being supplied by the battery, but you should try to get it back on AC power as soon as possible. If the light goes out completely, the MTA is no longer powered.

Scientific Atlanta Webstar™ DPC2203™:

To check the battery indicator with the MTA plugged in:

Find the indicator light labeled Replace Battery on the front of the MTA. If that light is on and solid, replace the battery.

To test the battery with the MTA unplugged:

Unplug the MTA. You should still be able to obtain a dial tone from a connected phone.

SCIENTIFIC Atlanta Webstar™ DPC2203C™

To check the battery indicator with the MTA plugged in:

Find the indicator light labeled Battery on the front of your MTA.

  • If the light is on, the battery is charged.
  • If the light is blinking, the battery charge is low.
  • If the light is off, the battery charge is depleted or the battery is defective.

To check the battery indicator with the MTA unplugged:

Unplug the MTA. The Power LED blinks to indicate that the unit is operating under battery power but AC power has failed.

SCIENTIFIC Atlanta Webstar™ DPX2203C™ or DPX2203C-S™

These units look the same, but the DPX2203C-S model has lights on the modem, and the DPX2203C has the lights on the actual battery unit.

To check the battery indicator with the MTA plugged in:

Find the indicator lights labeled Battery Low and Replace on the front of your MTA.

  • If the Battery low light is solid, the battery is low.
  • If the Replace Battery light is flashing, the battery is low.
  • If the Replace Battery light is solid, the battery is dead.

To test the battery with the MTA unplugged (Type S only):

Unplug the unit, and find the indicator lights labeled Battery Low and Replace on the front of the unit.

  • If the Battery Low light is flashing, the unit is running on battery.
  • If the Battery Low light is solid, the battery is low.

Technicolor (Thomson) DWG855

To check the battery indicator with the MTA plugged in:

Find the indicator light labeled Battery on the front of your MTA.

  • If the light is solid, the AC power and battery charge are good.
  • If the light is off, even if the AC power is working, the battery is bad.
  • If the light is flashing, the AC power is good, but the battery is low.

To test the battery with the MTA unplugged:

Unplug the unit. If the Battery light is solid, the battery is working.

If the Battery light is flashing, the battery is low.

If the Battery light is off, the battery is bad.

Ambit/UBEE U10C022 With Wireless Networking

To check the battery indicator with the MTA plugged in:

Find the indicator light on the front of the unit that is labeled Batt 1.

  • If the light is lit and steady, the battery is good.
  • If the light is flashing, the battery is low.
  • If the light is off, the battery is missing or bad.

To test the battery with the MTA unplugged:

Unplug the MTA.

  • You should able to obtain a dial tone on your Home Phone.
  • With the AC power disconnected, the Batt 1 LED flashes if the battery is low. If the LED is off, the modem is being powered by the battery or the battery is depleted.
