What is an A/V receiver?

An A/V (audio/video) receiver is a piece of home theater system equipment. The A/V receiver amplifies sound from a multitude of audio sources. It can also be used to direct video signals to your TV from various sources. With an A/V receiver, you can take inputs from DVD players and VCRs and select which source you want to route to your TV.
