What are coaxial cables?

Coaxial cables provide signals to your equipment for phone, Internet, and TV service. A coaxial cable runs from your wall to your TV or Spectrum Receiver, as well as your modem. You can also connect your Spectrum Receiver to your TV using coaxial cable.

  • Coaxial cable is often called coax for short. Sometimes, it is just referred to as cable wire.
  • Coaxial cables have a four-layer design that insulates from interference and frequency loss. The copper or copper-sheathed aluminum wire is surrounded by an insulating layer. This insulating layer is covered with shielding. Around all of these layers is a white or black protective outer layer.
