How do I update my DNS settings?

If you have removed DNS Changer from your computer, you need to update your DNS settings. Following are instructions for doing so, depending on your operating system:

Changing the DNS settings on a Windows XP computer

  1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel.
  2. Click Network Connections.
  3. Right-click your default connection (Wireless Network Connection or Local Area Connection), and from the pop-up menu select Properties.
  4. In the list box, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
  5. Click Properties. The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) window opens.
  6. Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
  7. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Reboot your computer.

Changing DNS settings on a Windows 7 or Windows 10 computer

  1. From the Start menu, select Control Panel.
  2. Click Network and Sharing Center.
  3. Click Manage network connections.
  4. Right-click your default connection (Wireless Network Connection or Local Area Connection), and from the pop-up menu select Properties.
  5. Click the Networking tab.
  6. In the list box, click one of the following:
    • Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP4).
    • Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IP6).
  7. Click Properties.
  8. Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
  9. Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Reboot your computer.

Changing DNS server settings on a Mac

  1. From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.
  2. Select Network.
  3. Select a network interface from the sidebar.
    • By default, your primary network interface is selected.
    • If you use more than one interface to connect to the Internet, use these instructions to update the DNS servers for all of the interfaces.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Click the DNS tab.
  6. In the DNS Servers list box, select a current DNS server setting.
  7. Click the - button (Minus button) to delete it.
  8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 as necessary to delete all DNS servers.
  9. Click the + button to add a new DNS server. We have several DNS servers in different markets:
    • Bakersfield, Indiana, Michigan: 209.18.47.61 or 209.18.47.62.
    • Birmingham and Florida: 75.114.81.1 or 75.114.81.2.
  10. Click OK.
  11. Click Apply.
  12. Test your access to the Internet to make sure your new DNS servers are working.
  13. If you do not have access, reboot your computer and try again.
