What is switched digital video (SDV)?

Switched digital video (SDV) is a robust bandwidth-management system that makes it possible to offer more digital video programming services than ever before, including new HD channels.

Channels delivered via SDV are only transmitted over the cable network on an as-needed basis, which is a more efficient use of network bandwidth than the traditional always-on delivery method. As a TV customer, you will likely see no disruption in your current programming services or new services delivered on the SDV system.

When you tune to an SDV channel, your Spectrum Receiver or tuning adapter tells the network that you want to watch the channel. The network then sends that channel to your home. This back and forth communication makes SDV a bidirectional service.

To receive bidirectional services, you need a bidirectional device. All Spectrum Receivers, DVRs, and tuning adapters are bidirectional.

If you wish to receive the above services, you can contact us to obtain a Spectrum Receiver or tuning adapter that is capable of supporting two-way communications with the SDV system.
