How do I set up Parental Controls for email?

To initiate email Parental Control for sub accounts, you must turn on Parental Control for each affected sub account, and then you must set up the Parental Control parameters.

These Parental Controls apply only to the email interface provided with your Internet service. If a child is using an email client such as Outlook, all mail is received.

To turn on email Parental Controls for a sub account:

  1. In your Internet browser, enter https://mail.brighthouse.com, and complete the login process. The Inbox page opens.
  2. Click Settings. The Settings page opens.
  3. Under Manage mailbox settings, click Manage mailbox accounts. The Manage Mailbox Accounts page opens.
  4. From the Email Address column, select the sub account to which you want to apply Parental Controls. The Edit Account page opens.
  5. Under Parental Control, select ON.
  6. Click OK. The Manage Mailbox Accounts page opens. In the Parental control column for that sub account, ON is displayed.

To set Parental Control parameters for email:

  1. While still logged in to your master account, click Settings. The Settings page opens.
  2. Under Manage mailbox settings, click Manage Parental Control. The Parental Control page opens.
  3. Under Junk Mail, to prevent access to junk mail, select Delete incoming Junk Mail.
  4. Under Blocked Senders and Domains, enter on a separate line each email address and domain that you want to block.
  5. Under Allowed Senders and Domains, enter on a separate line each email address and domain that you want to allow your child to access.
  6. Under Blocked Mail Actions, the default is Delete mail from blocked senders. You can also select Forward blocked mail to the Head of the Household (the master account holder). You can forward blocked email to one of the following folders:
    • Inbox.
    • Deleted Items.
    • Junk Mail.
    • A new folder that you create.
  7. If you want to send blocked email to one of the folders listed above, select it from the Place messages in drop-down list, and click OK.
    • If you want to create a new folder, enter the name of the folder in the Create new folder text box and click OK. The system automatically selects the folder you just created in the Place messages in drop-down list.
  8. Under Other Mail, select one of the following to determine what happens to messages from senders that are neither allowed nor blocked:
    • Deliver all other mail (to the sub account).
    • Delete or forward all other mail, based on the Blocked Mail Action chosen above. If you forward other mail, you can review it and decide whether to block or allow mail from these senders in the future.
  9. Click OK.
