How do I reboot my phone modem, or MTA?

If you do not have Spectrum Voiceâ„¢, see How do I reboot my cable modem?

To reboot a phone modem (MTA) not connected to a router:

  1. Unplug the MTA power cord.
    • If your MTA has a battery installed, remove the battery and wait at least 15 seconds.
    • Reinsert the battery.
  2. Plug the MTA back in, and wait for your MTA to initialize fully. That process should take about 5 minutes.
  3. Attempt to browse the Internet or make a phone call.

To reboot both a router and an MTA:

  1. Unplug the router.
  2. Unplug the MTA power cord.
    • If your MTA has a battery installed, remove the battery and wait at least 15 seconds.
    • Reinsert the battery.
  3. Plug the MTA back in, and wait for your MTA to initialize fully. That process should take about 5 minutes.
  4. Plug in the power to your router, and wait about 30 seconds to ensure that you have reestablished a connection.
  5. Attempt to browse the Internet or make a phone call.

If you have a modem-router combination, pressing the Reset button on the back of your modem wipes out your network settings. If you have a standard modem, pressing the Reset button does the same thing as the preceding instructions. Do not press Reset unless instructed to do so by a customer service representative.
