Do IPv4 and IPv6 communicate with each other?

IPv4 and IPv6 addresses cannot communicate with each other directly. However, network address translators bridge the gap between IPv4 and IPv6.

Dual stacking — assigning both an IPv4 address and an IPv6 address to a device — enables the device to use either protocol.
