Why did my DVR record only part of a program?

If your DVR did not record the entire program, check the following:

Did the DVR run out of recording space?

If your DVR is full and the recordings are set to only be manually deleted, the current recording will stop when it is out of space.

See How can I maximize my DVR storage space?

Did your home lose power?

While recordings and settings are saved during a power outage, the DVR needs power to record something new. During a power outage, the DVR will stop recording and begin again when power is restored.

See Will the DVR keep my recorded programs after a power failure?

Did the program start late or end late?

The DVR uses the Guide to determine when to start and stop recording. Sometimes, a program may begin or end after the scheduled time, particularly shows that are live or that follow another live show. This is particularly true of live sporting events.

If you schedule a recording that may run over the scheduled time, see What can I do to ensure that my entire program is recorded?

Is the missing part of the program saved in a separate recording?

If the DVR suffered an error during the recording, the initial recording may stop short, but recording may resume and appear as a second recording in the list.

Check your recorded list to see if the rest of the program is in a different recording. If you have more than one recording for a program, check the date and the end and start times of each recording.

If none of the above occurred and you continue to encounter this error:

  1. Reboot the Spectrum Receiver by unplugging the power from the back of the Spectrum Receiver, leaving it unplugged for 5 to 10 seconds, and then plugging it back in.
  2. Create a recording to test whether the issue was resolved. See How do I record a program?
