How do I connect my Nintendo Wii U to a wireless network?

In addition to your wireless network name, password and encryption type (security protocol), you will need your IP address. If necessary, you can find your IP address and make note of it.

To manually connect your Wii U to a wireless network:

  1. From the Wii U Menu, select System Settings.
  2. Using the Left Stick, select the Internet icon and press A.
  3. Tap Connect to the Internet.
  4. Tap Connection Types or press Y.
  5. Select Manual Configuration.
  6. Tap SSID, and enter your wireless network name (case sensitive).
  7. Tap Security and select the encryption method, and then enter your network security key (password).
  8. Tap the arrow on the right, and select IP Address.
  9. Tap Don't Auto-Obtain and enter the following information (remember to include the dot "." between each set of numbers):
    • Tap IP Address and enter your IP address by adding 10 to the IP address listed on the PC (ex. if the computer's IP address displays 192.168.2.5, enter it into the Wii U as 192.168.2.15). If you have static, private 192.168.X.X IPs already assigned, contact Spectrum Support to assign an unused IP to your Wii U.
    • Tap Subnet Mask and enter the subnet mask as it appears in your network settings.
    • Tap Gateway and enter the default gateway as it appears in your network settings.
  10. Tap Confirm. An on-screen message will ask you to configure the DNS settings.
  11. Tap Configure.
  12. Tap Don't Auto-Obtain and enter the DNS info as follows (remember to include the dot "." between each set of numbers):
    • Tap Primary DNS and enter 8.8.8.8, and then tap OK to return to the DNS screen.
    • Tap Secondary DNS and enter 8.8.4.4, and then tap OK to return to the DNS screen.
  13. Tap Confirm to return to the manual settings screen.
  14. When asked about a proxy server, select No Proxy.
  15. When finished, tap Save or press B.
  16. Tap OK if the connection test was successful. If you receive an error code use the error code lookup tool.
  17. To set this network as your default network, tap Set.
