What is a MAC address, and how do I identify mine?

A MAC (media access control) address is made up of 12 alphanumeric characters and gives your modem a unique identity on the network. A MAC address is also referred to as a Cable Modem ID.

You might need your MAC address to:

  • Register for your online account.
  • Retrieve your email address or password.
  • Install your own modem.
  • Improve the security of your wireless network.
  • Diagnose or resolve some computer network errors.

Identifying Your MAC Address

You can find your MAC address:

To find the MAC address on your modem:

  1. Look for a bar code sticker.
  2. Find the identifier MAC, or MTA-MAC.

To find your MAC address using Subscriber Self Care:

  1. Go to selfcare.rr.com. The Subscriber Self Care login page opens.
  2. Enter your master account Email Address and Password.
  3. Enter the displayed random characters in the text box.
  4. Click Login. The User Management page opens.
    • You might be asked to select your cable provider.
  5. Click Modem Information. The MAC addresses are displayed.
